Buenos Aires Police Marks One Year in Villa 1-11-14

Buenos Aires, December 16 (NA) -- The City Police completed this Tuesday a year in charge of prevention and security in Villa 1-11-4 in Bajo Flores, a period in which 910 interventions were carried out for various crimes with a result of 845 detainees, 44,765 doses of different drugs seized and the closure of 10 drug sales points. One of the security objectives in that neighborhood is the fight against drug dealing. The arrival of the city force in that area marked a milestone in the city's security policy, as it was the last settlement that remained under the control of the federal forces. The City Police took over security in Villa 1-11-4, Bonorino, Rivadavia I and II, Barrio Juan XXIII, and Illia I and II on December 16, 2024, when the National Gendarmerie withdrew from that territory, which has an area of 12 square kilometers. To provide full coverage to all of 1-11-14, the Police deployed 331 personnel from Tactical Unit V, one of the seven divisions of the Neighborhood Pacification Superintendency, better known as 'La Barrial'. Of these, 34 percent are female personnel. The unit operating there has 16 vehicles and is based on a model of proximity policing with patrols consisting of a minimum of 5 personnel who patrol the area 24 hours a day. To date, the City Police has intervened in 910 incidents in that neighborhood. So far this year, 293 procedures have been carried out for this reason, with a total of 312 detainees/imputed. In 1.11-14, the police closed 10 drug sales points in the year, seized 44,765 doses of narcotics, the vast majority of them cocaine and crack. Two of those police stations are run by women. The deployment in the area is carried out through the Tactical Neighborhood Operation Units, with groups of five to ten agents who permanently patrol the vulnerable neighborhoods. In addition, the personnel carry out an average of 200 daily displacements based on calls to 911 or requests for assistance at the police stations. The purpose of this force is to guarantee security in those neighborhoods and prevent crime. It is made up of 1,500 personnel (a third of them women). The Neighborhood Pacification Superintendency, better known as 'La Barrial', has seven divisions, each of which has a police station to cover the entire territory. This cumulative total represented a total of 12,700 grams of drugs. The 'Barrial' Police is a special unit of the city force created to provide security and assistance to 100% of the city's vulnerable neighborhoods. It also coordinates and participates in emergency situations for neighbors, such as first aid, health evacuations or due to fires, and even attend to emergencies in cases of gender-based violence or family fights.
